About Us

Crief Pottery was established by Joe Hunter in 1999, with the purpose being to continue the production of the distinctive Buchan Thistle Pottery.

Joe began his career in the pottery industry over 30 years ago, when he started a 5 year apprenticeship at Govencroft Potteries. In 1981, Joe left Govencroft for Buchans where he was in charge of their Making Department until the factory closed in 1999. After coming to an agreement with the Directors at Buchan, Joe established Crieff Pottery and continues to produce Buchan Thistle Pottery to this day.
